Legacies Now and the bid for the 2010 Olympics
What YOU can do to get a YES vote on February 22!
Today we face a challenge to our own Olympic Dream.
On Saturday, February 22, the City of Vancouver will hold a plebiscite on hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics. Vancouverites must turn out at the polls to vote YES. All of us need to help spread the word of the importance of the plebiscite's outcome. It's important because we must send a clear and strong signal to the International Olympic Committee that we are ready and willing to host the 2010 Games.
There is much at stake to lose in this plebiscite and the time for action is now. Whether or not you qualify to vote, there's a lot you can do to get a YES vote on February 22. Please demonstrate your enthusiasm, spread the word, and volunteer, and if you do qualify, get yourself out to vote YES!
Try these four action ideas right now:
- Go online and register your support at www.voteyesfebruary22.com
- Forward this email to friends and associates to make sure they know where to go to show their support.
- Attend one or several of the Bid Corporation Open Houses, wearing a vote YES pin:
1) Friday, February 07 Killarney Community Centre 3:30-7:30pm
2) Wednesday, February 12 North Van Chamber of Commerce Meeting Squamish Nation Rec Centre 3-8pm
- Post a vote YES sign on your front lawn or in your window. To get your sign fax 604-682-2619 or email yes2010@voteyesfebruary22.com.
No matter what you choose to do, do something. Together we can demonstrate that, in Canada, the Olympic Dream is not just reserved for athletes!

| Polar Training Tip Of The Month |

Run or jog regularly to get the greatest benefits.
Be sure to wear comfortable clothes and proper running shoes.
Stretch your leg muscles carefully for at least five to ten minutes before and after you run—but remember NOT to bounce when you stretch.
Remember to warm up at the beginning and cool down at the end of your run. Start off easily, slowly increasing to a comfortable pace that you can maintain for 20 minutes or more (for optimal cardio-respiratory benefits), and then slow down again for your cool-down period.
If you do a hard run, give your body a chance to recover properly with an easy run or even a day off before another hard workout.
Check your technique and posture. Keep your body erect, your head up and your neck and shoulders relaxed.
Run with a comfortable stride length and pace. Make sure you run heel-to-toe, pushing off with the toes at the end of each step and propelling your trailing leg forward to keep up a vigorous pace.
Remember to wear your Polar Heart Rate Monitor, your personal trainer that will guide you safely and efficiently to your goal.
