Team Yeti Canada Update
Team Yeti Canada Racing at Silver Star
After qualifying in Bend, Oregon for the U.S Nationals in Anchorage, Alaska, Team Yeti Canada migrated to Silver Star Ski Resort for the first Yeti Snowshoe Race of the 2005 series. This year, as most new it would, is already proving to be the most competitive and spirited season since the inception of The Yeti race series.
Leading the men's side of the team, returning Yeti Champion Andrew Clarke had some stiff competition and was pressed right from the start. Finishing 3rd overall, Clarke responded that it is not surprising given the level of athletes in BC. He was quick to note that in the initial race last year, he finished 3rd overall…grinning. Following close behind Clarke was Justin Mark, Dom Repta and Dave Howells, all finishing within 1 minute of Clarke. "The team aspect this year really pushes us to step our training up as competition is not only coming from within the team, but from all the amazing athletes racing in this series." said Howells. Team Yeti Canada was a strong presence, with 6 men finishing in the top 10 overall. The point category in the series is extremely close with less then 100 points separating 1st from 10th in the series.
The three women from team Yeti Canada that took to the start line at Silver Star, finished in the top three spots. Cheryl Beatty, Carey Sather and Lana Allen fought hard to finish ahead of the other strong women in the field. Less then 50 points separates the three women vying for 2005 Yeti Champion. Carey Sather said "with the talent of women out here, one mistake and you can fall off the back, so it is imperative to come prepared". Allen said, "that even though it is competitive, you won't find a sport out there that is as exhilarating, refreshing and spirited than snowshoe racing."
Team Yeti Canada is next racing at Mt. Seymour for the 2nd race in the Yeti Series.

As we make our final preparations for the gun to go off, we often find ourselves reaching for our LUCKY top, hat or whatever it is that we wore the last time we had a good race. But these superstitious behaviors must be met with some level of common sense!! Often times athletes take for granted that a base layer is ... Click here for the full article.
