Hello Snowshoers!
This newsletter has new information on the cancelled race at Cougar Mountain and the new Night Race at Mt. Seymour so if you were signed up, planning on signing up or are interested in signing up for the new Night Race then please read on. Without going into too much detail about the Cougar Mountain event I will just say that a lot of things were promised to me in the initial meetings around Cougar and they had all fallen through from things like parking, trail access, staging area and the fact that creek crossings have opened up due to the nicer weather we have had lately. I want to apologize to those people that had signed up and were looking forward to racing there we were as well. In light of bad things there are always positives to take from it and that it that we will now get to have our first night race ever. We have talked about having a race like this for a couple of years but never could fit it into the schedule. After talking it over with Mt. Seymour and making sure we could pull it off we now have confirmation that we will not only have the race there but the awards as well. We will be holding the awards at the main cafeteria and everyone will get their free bottle of Sleeman's and we are working on a food menu for all of you that will more than likely be hungry after running around in the woods. For more information on times click here. Due to this being a night time event we want to make sure that we can control everyone in one area we will only be using the lower trail system at Seymour, no BC Parks. Headlamps are MANDATORY for this event. We will have a 3.3km loop set up so the 10k racers will do 3 laps and normally the 5km will now be a little longer at 6.6km, we have opened this up to do with a friend as a relay. If you are interested in doing the Relay it will cost $20 each ($40 in total) for pre reg and $50 day of. Online Relay Registration is now open. If you would like to sign up now as a Relay then go to registration page and either sign up online OR download 2 registration forms, fill them out and fax OR mail them in.
Mt. Seymour Race hits all new record numbers!
Thanks to everyone that participated in the last Yeti at Mt. Seymour on Feb. 03, we had 175 people registered and 155 on the line. Congratulations to those who placed in the top three and to all that entered, this is the toughest course on the Yeti circuit! It's tough because of all the elevation gain between the 2 loops, I had so many people ask me after they finished the lower section "Is that it, am I done", I would just reply, not quite yet.
Bob Withers Memorial Fund
For those of you that don't know, on April 9 2006 Bob lost his life to a heart attack during the Yeti Ascent race at Mt. Seymour. His wife lost her soul mate, the Yeti lost its favorite racer and everyone who knew him lost a great friend. This year and every year after we are going to donate profits from the Yeti Ascent to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. We also have a couple other ways to raise money in Bob's name for this great cause. We will be selling "Smiling Bob Snowrunners" technical t-shirts for $30, this money will be split between the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the North Shore Search and Rescue. Join up with this team to do not only the Yeti races but other races that Bob use to participate in. We also have Cow Bells for sale for $10 and all the money raised will all go to the Heart and Stroke. These are great for taking to other events and cheering on all the athletes taking part. As his wife Brenda said, Bob was a very humble man and I know that he will be looking down in amazement to see just how many peoples lives he did touch and the legacy that he did leave behind - a legacy that he would never had believed possible had he been told while living that this would happen. So this year do the Yeti Ascent not only for yourself but also in memory of Bob Withers and help raise money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Click here for more information.
