Adventure Races To Check Out This Year

Check out the following races that some of our friends are doing.

The 4th Annual Mind Over Mountain Adventure Race on May 10th is fast approaching. This epic one-day event in Maple Bay (Duncan) features kayaking, mountain biking, orienteering, and trail running over 40km of Vancouver Island's most challenging terrain. The MOMAR is a great way to kick off your adventure racing season. The after-party banquet is often as big a highlight as the race itself and should not be missed!

For more information, please visit www.mindovermountain.com.

Sea2summit Adventure Racing is now in its 8th season, making it the longest running multi-sport adventure race in North America. Sea2summit adventure races are 2 and 3 day stage adventure races occurring at Panorama, Whistler, Blue Mountain, and Mont Ste. Marie ski resorts in some of Canada's most spectacular scenery. A 'stage' race sees all racers begin together, working their way against the clock through a multi-discipline course to the daily finish line. Each day you can expect an average of 7-10 hrs of paddling, trekking, mountain biking, orienteering, and more often than not, surprise challenges - it's not unusual to have a Tyrolean Traverse over a 200 foot gorge included as one of the events. For all sea2summit races, you can race as a solo, team of 2, or team of 4 in single and mixed gender categories.

    Exercise to Energize
    Written by Eric Harr

Q: "I am a father of three and work about 50 hours a week. As I've grown older, I've found that I am much less energetic. I can get through a work day just fine, but when I'm finished, I have little or no energy for what matters most: my family. How should I exercise to boost my energy rather than drain it!" - Martin Keller, Minneapolis, MN

    Dear Martin,

Energy forms the basis of our existence, yet it seems that we all have less and less of it as our schedules have grown increasingly hectic. Unfortunately, for many of us, exercise exacerbates this problem by draining our energy, rather than refilling it.

This column will show you how to exercise, so that each workout refreshes your body and mind and over-time gives you more energy, so that you can perform better at work and at play.
